KACF SPONSORED PROJECTS

“The High Is A Lie” Meth Presentation

The Local BBB has been a thriving partner of Washington State Meth Watch (the Greater Spokane Substance Abuse Council) for the past four years, and has now forged a partnership with key associations in North Idaho to foster a methamphetamine awareness presentation suitable for youth as well as businesses.  The partners in this program are the Kootenai Alliance for Families and Children (KACF), the Kootenai County Substance Abuse Council (KCSAC), Idaho Drug-Free Youth (IDFY), and the Idaho State Police (ISP).

The presentation offers upfront information about:

· What meth is

· Routes of abuse

· Cycles of use

· Signs and symptoms of meth use

· The different kinds of meth available

· Effects on the community; and

· Supporting the habit — identity theft

The meth presentation is taught to middle and high-school-aged youth and free training to learn the “The High is a Lie” presentation is available for school staff, youth mentors, law enforcement, and others who teach youth.   The training prepares adults and mentors to present the presentation to youth.

More and more businesses have also been coming to the Local BBB asking about the availability of meth awareness training for their workplace.  Many owners and managers have been bringing to our attention the need for staff training regarding how to detect the infiltration of meth use amongst staff, as well as how to address and prevent the devastation that can occur as a result of not recognizing critical problems before they get out of hand.  Because of these requests, free training is now also available for local businesses.  If you are interested in such training for your workplace, or you are interested in more information on the presentation, please contact KACF at 676-8193 or Tammy Rubino of KCSAC at 773-2118.

Training materials include meth information and a copy of “The High is a Lie” presentation.  The presentation is offered with an identity theft component presented by a rep of the BBB.  The cost is free.

Recently 65% of the Idaho Youth Caucus indicated that they knew someone in their school who has or does use meth.  When asked who they think those kids were getting it from, they said “their parents.”
