KACF CTC Process

In January of 2003, with the vision that “all residents of our Community of Care and promise are responsible, healthy, secure, principled, and empowered to reach their full potential,” KACF began implementing the Communities That Care® best-practice prevention-planning system.

A Community Board Orientation was held and five CTC work groups (made up of KACF members) were formed:  the Risk and Protective Factor Workgroup, the Resource and Evaluation Workgroup, the Outreach Workgroup, the Youth Involvement Workgroup, and the Board Maintenance and Funding Work Group.

In December of 2004, KACF moved into stage four of a five-stage process with a Community Assessment Training in which 45 were in attendance.  The Communities That Care® Youth Survey was reviewed and four risk factors were identified from these surveys and prioritized by our community.  These risk factors are:

· family management

· family history of the problem behavior

· early initiation of the problem behavior

· transitions and mobility

KACF is now seeking to reduce duplication of services and direct our energies toward those programs and policies that best focus on these identified risk factors.

CTC workgroups are currently collecting and analyzing data in our community regarding existing resources.  Once measurable, desired outcomes and tested effective programs and policies are selected, a Community Action Plan will be created in addition to a community level evaluation plan, and preparation for implementation will begin.

And the survey said…..

35% of our area youth have smoked marijuana.

                  Almost 42% have smoked cigarettes.

And 71% of area youth have consumed alcohol, with 45% having used it within the last 30 days…
