COMMUNITIES THAT CARE®

Developed by Dr. David Hawkins and Dr. Richard Catalano of the Social Development Research Group in Seattle, Washington (and facilitated by the U.S. Department of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration — SAMHSA), the Communities That Care® system is a way for members of a community to work together to efficiently and effectively promote positive youth development and prevent youth problem behaviors such as substance abuse, delinquency, teen pregnancy, school drop-out and violence.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.

Darkness to Light is a national organization.  It addresses what we can do as parents, as professionals working with children and as community members to prevent, recognize and react responsibly to child sexual abuse.

Child sexual abuse is a community problem.  It is a collective problem.  It is caused by the calculated sexualizing of a child by a perpetrator, the fear or denial of adults who have awareness of the abuse but do not act, and the inexperience of potentially helpful adults.
